Plain Batts (Solid Cordierite Plate) are the most common type of primary kiln furniture, usually produced by semi-dry pressing, but can also be made by pressure-casting. The Solid Cordierite Plate can be split into ten sub-categories as follows: Extra Large Batt, Extra Thin Batt, Plain Batt, Perforated Batt, Grooved Batt,Trapezoid Batt, Recessed Batt, Full Disc, Half Disc and Special Batt.
Cordierite is formed by either sintering or electrofusion. The characteristis of Cordierite lower and more uniform thermal expansion make it the ideal raw material for kiln furniture. Cordierite- Mulite kiln furniture is a combination of Cordierite, Mullite. It possesses excellent thermal shock resistance and is suitable for load bearing at room and high temperatures, and is the best refractory for use in kiln furniture and kiln construction.
